How de Fox cotch da Crusader Rabbit

"What al-Qaeda really, really wanted in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks was a Middle East theatre of war. The thinking was that the US had to be provoked into a long-term conflict in the Muslim homeland so that al-Qaeda could have a long-term opportunity to demonstrate, as it sees them, its purer Islamic credentials. That's precisely what Bush has given it in Iraq."

That quote, and my recent piece on Crusader Rabbit http://guambatstew.blogspot.com/2005/10/crusader-rabbit-and-other-hair-brained.html
made me think of Uncle Remus, who, I reckon, ranks right up there with the great philosophers and moralists of history. You probably know and remember the story of how Brer Fox almost caught Brer Rabbit with a Tar Baby. If you need a refresher, or just want a delightful read, go to http://xroads.virginia.edu/~UG97/remus/tar-baby.html

I can just see old Crusader Rabbit coming along down the road and saying to the Tar Baby, "Hey dar, whatch yo got hidin' b'hind yore back? Way yo hiden dem dar waypones o' mass deeestrucshun?"

Paul McGeough is the SMH's main reporter, correspondent, eyes and ears, analyst, whatever, in the Middle East. He has spend years in the thick of it. The quote above is from this excerpt of a speech he recently gave printed as an opinion piece in the SMH today: http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/osamas-hall-of-mirrors/2005/10/12/1128796586023.html I'd give you some more quotes from it, but you really should read the whole thing yourself. Won't take long. See if you agree with me that my Crusader Rabbit post comes to several similar conclusions.

Thanks to http://www.commongroundcommonsense.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/index.php?act=findpost&pid=112703 for imagery; he had the notion long before me, too, it appears.
