True Blue, Dinky di

The Australian spirit was right where it always is when the going gets tough. I'm speaking, of course, of the Beaconsfield mine and the methodical, magical rescue of Todd Russell and Brant Webb.

Listening to the rescuers on TV this morning, we were told that the miners didn't have to crawl out down the narrow rescue tunnel. The were instead put on a kind of sled and pulled out. The rescuer said something to the effect of, "Yeah, they got it pretty easy (chuckle/snort)".

Their supervisor told them they were lying down on the job, and he was getting soft because it was the first time he failed to sack someone for sleeping on the job.

Days before they were pulled out, Todd Russel asked for a Saturday newspaper because he was resigning and wanted to look at the want ads for a new job.

As soon as they got out, most of the celebrations were taking place at the pub. Todd and Brant want to join them but have to get medical clearance before they can taste the amber.

Cheers to everyone involved!
