VEGAn
There’s been lotsa hoopla surrounding the demolition and attempted reconstruction of Sydney ABC drivetime morning radio. (http://abc.net.au/sydney/) The happy, engaging Angela Catterns has moved to VEGA fm, and her follow-up, Sally Loane, road off into the sunset with a boot by management. http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/listeners-not-so-keen-to-lend-their-ears/2005/08/17/1123958125228.html Too bad on both counts.
I’ve had to rediscover my fm dial on the car radio (http://www.vega953.com.au/programs/breakfast.aspx), but now have to chew on advertisements and a little more music than I can handle so early when I'm trying to get up to snuff on "the latest" just to get my "Anj" fix. I have no idea who they’ve tried to replace her with at ABC.
Now Sally, though, that’s another thing. (http://abc.net.au/sydney/sallyloane/) Frankly, I tend to agree with management’s alleged linking her to the north shore "pony club". She sometimes got right up my nose, and I often accused her of such on the show’s guestbook. Her fawning over issues north shore and complete disregard of things westie really was elitist and a bit too politically correct. But, she did bring personality, colour and a transparent desire to be open to a different perspective even if she couldn’t always get her own head around it. And she was usually on to the latest hot topic, at least so much of it that is East of Lane Cove and the Anzac Bridge.
Her replacement, Kath McKenzie, has the personality of a phone book, so far at least. But there's no Harmer in that.
Ah-h-h: radio daze. It's your ABC....
