Jack went up to Hills to fetch a pail of money

"In 2002, the local court used [Howard] Hills to send $324,000 in payments to [Jack] Abramoff, broken into 36 checks of $9,000 each, the Los Angeles Times quoted Hills as saying in a report last month... 'Mr. Hills did not question the fact that the checks were numerous and in small amounts as he deferred to what he understood to be the court's accounting requirements that necessitated that the checks be in those amounts,' [according to Howard Hills' lawyer]." http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050817/NEWS01/508170318/1002

And while we've got Jack Abramoff on the radar, you should read all the dirt STILL being dished up about him by joshua micah marshall over at http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/. I'd quote from some of it, but this is a family blog.
