So is Guam crawling with RINOs, as we are all lead to believe by the right wing?
Is the Abramoff story in Guam more of a collusion of interests or are the residents victims of the mainland GOP machine?
Having lived in Sydney for the past 17 years, I'm a bit out of touch with Stateside embitterments. What's a RINO? As far as I can tell, Guam has the usual spectrum of political believers, and the Abramoff story there was more mercenary than partisan. With people still alive on Guam who experienced the sword for having been American during WWII occupation, they are a patriotic bunch. But they are also forgiving, generous and supportive of their community. They take pleasure in the combative competition of partisan politics, and are probably equally divided between nominal democrats and republicans. Divisions are more generally found between clans and families. What most of them can smell from a mile off is a Stateside carpetbagger, and it then becomes a game to see who fleeces who. Magellan named the place the Island of Thieves. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/destinations/pacific/guam/history.htm
